A 1949 graduate of Springfield College in Massachusetts, Stan Wright's storied career has included stints as head track and field coach at three universities as well as stints as athletics director at two universities.

From 1951 to 1967, Wright served as head track coach and assistant professor at Texas Southern University. While at TSU, his teams captured four Midwestern Conference and seven SWAC Championships. During that span, he won NAIA Coach of the Year honors after capturing NAIA National Championships in 1961 and 1962.

While at TSU, Wright worked in a host of prestigious positions in track and field. Included were service stints as co-head track coach for the U.S.A. team in the University Games in Tokyo, Japan (1967) and head track coach for the U.S. National Team in the Polish and Russian dual meets in 1966.
