Smith led Texas Southern to its first-ever school championship and was a two-time rushing leader for TSU from 1951-54. He’s TSU’s all-time single season leader with 12 rushing touchdowns (1952) and ranks third all-time amongst TSU rushers with 24 touchdowns. Smith finished his career with 2,545 rushing yards and was drafted in the 19th round of the 1955 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears.
