Adams was one of the top track & field runners in TSU history as he was an All-SWAC performer in the 880-yard, one and two-mile runs. In 1960 at the SWAC Championship, Adams won the one mile, two-mile and finished second in the 880. He was selected to represent TSU on the District 6-B Team at the NAIA Meet. He won the 880 in a time of 1:50.8 at the 1961 NAIA Meet which was also a record at the time.
