Johnson Wins Long Jump In Season Opener

Chris Johnson had a successful TSU debut with a first-place finish in the long jump and a top-eight finish in the 60 during the team's indoor track & field opener on Saturday.

Johnson jumped a personal and SWAC-best 24-5.75 feet as he posted the mark in his sixth and final attempt. He also finished eighth in the 60 as he ran a personal-best 6.83 which ranks sixth in the SWAC. Freshman Joshua Brown also had a strong collegiate debut as he placed third overall (50.02) in the 400. Michael Strange (1:13.16), Kaseem Ibraheem-Washington (1:13.38) and Patrick Goodman (1:14.25) finished 5-6-7 in the 600-yard run while Bruce Prince placed fourth (2:50.31) in the 1,000-meter run. Jeremiah Barrera placed 10th in the mile as he completed the race in a time of 4:31.09 while Donyea Jarmon finished ninth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.21).

Braylon Carr placed second overall in the triple jump with a length of 47-11.75 that ranks fourth in the SWAC. Jalen Walker threw 50-8.75 feet to place fifth in the shot put while Blaine Nunn finished ninth (48-9). Nunn also placed seventh in the weight throw with a length of 53-1.75 feet.

The team is back in action at the Samford Invitational on Jan. 15.
