BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Texas Southern women's track & field team posted its best finish since 2017 with a third-place finish at the 2023 SWAC Indoor Championship.

For the second straight year, the meet format was shaken up due to weather as the final day of the meet featured timed finals. Despite the setback, TSU found a way to persevere as they captured 12 top-10 finishes and one individual championship.

Phylan Perkins was TSU's top performer as she won back-to-back indoor first-place titles in the weight throw. On her last attempt, Perkins threw a length of 57-9.5 feet to solidify the title.

Shelby Brooks finished second in the 400 (55.49) and posted a personal-best mark in the 200 (24.87) en route to a seventh-place finish. Jasmine Walker ran a personal-best 2:20.49 to place eighth in the 800 while Adayshia Coleman also posted a personal-best time of 8.92 en route to placing ninth in the 60-meter hurdles.

The mile relay quartet of Lillie Burnett, Madison Dominguez, Tardranique London and Brooks placed fourth as they ran a season-best 3:48.94

Kaleese Branch finished third in the high jump as she logged a mark of 5-4.25 feet while Ryann Richards (10-2.5) and Morgan Haywood (9-10.5) finished 3-4 in the pole vault as Haywood posted a personal-best.

Alexis Wilson had a strong day with a pair of personal bests as she placed seventh in the long jump (17-7.5) and fourth in the triple jump (38-5). Skyla Faux wrapped up the field events with a sixth-place finish in the shot put after a throw of 40-6.75 feet.

TSU is back in action for outdoor season at the annual JET Relays in Fort Worth, Texas on March 11.
