Brooks Has Solid Debut On Track In 2023 Season Opener

Shelby Brooks started the 2023 season off strong with a pair of top-five finishes as TSU women's track and field opened the 2023 season at the Leonard Hilton Memorial on Friday.
 
Brooks came within six-tenths of a second of tying a personal best in the 200 as she finished fifth with a time of 25.07. Brooks also came back to the track and placed third in the 400 as she logged a mark of 56.84.
 
Kaleese Branch and Tardranique London had solid debuts to open their collegiate careers as Branch placed third in the high jump with a mark of 5-5 followed by London's fourth-place mark of 5-1. TSU had another pair of freshmen start off strong as Morgan Haywood and Ryann Richards both tied for fifth in the pole vault as both jumped 9-2.25.
 
Phylan Perkins placed fifth overall in the shot put after a throw of 41-5.75 before returning to the weight throw en route to a fifth-place length of 57-1.5.
 
The team is back in action on Friday at the Red Raider Open in Lubbock, Texas.
