BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Tigers of Texas Southern University took fourth place out of 10 teams at the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference indoor track and field championship meet Friday.

The Tigers finished with a total of 87 points, 10 points behind third-place finisher Arkansas–Pine Bluff. Alabama State won the championship with a total of 165 team points.

TSU's Roman Turner led the Tigers in Friday's action, as he won the 60-meter dash finals. Turner took gold with a time of 6.73 seconds.

His teammate Hillary Maiyo was on the podium twice at the meet. He won an individual medal with his second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run; Maiyo's time in the event was 15 minutes, 45.25 seconds.

Maiyo was also part of the distance medley team that claimed third place with a time of 10:34.69. TSU's team also consisted of Jorge Martinez, Bronshaye Bolden, and Jacob Price.

Price was also a finalist in the 800-meter run, taking fifth place with a time of 1:57.12.

In Friday's field events, Taylor Levine was TSU's top performer, taking fourth place in the long jump. Taylor's best jump was recorded at seven meters (22 feet, 11.75 inches).

The Tigers return to action in March with the start of the outdoor track and field season.
