Shah Posts 2-Under Opening Round, Men’s Golf In 5th After Day 1 Of SWAC Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Texas Southern University Men's Golf Team is in 5th place after posting a 13-over-par day one total of 301 at the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Golf Championship.

Sophomore, Yashal Shah carded a two-under-par opening round of 70 and is tied in 3rd place individually. Shah's opening round included an eagle on the par 5 12th hole, three birdies, 11 pars and three bogeys.

Senior Ravepon Kosalutta posted a four-over-par round of 76 while, sophomore Ricardo Pham was one stroke back on 77 and freshman Javier Vazquez posted a 78.

The current standings have Arkansas-Pine Bluff leading the tournament on 287, Florida A&M is in 2nd place on 290, Alabama A&M are in 3rd place on 295, and Alabama State University sits in 4th place on 300. Texas Southern University is in 5th on 301, Jackson State University is in 6th on 303, while Prairie View A&M are in 7th place with 305, and Southern University is in 8th place on 310.

The competing teams are playing at the Robert Trent Jones Trail: Oxmoor Valley, a par-72 championship course. The Tigers tee up for the second round of the SWAC Championships Tuesday morning with an 8:00 am start.
