Box Score COLLEGE PARK, Ga. - The 2025-26 season came to a tough end as Alabama A&M used a decisive overtime period to defeat the Tigers 85–74 in the quarterfinal round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday night at Gateway Center Arena.
Texas Southern controlled the tempo for much of the opening half and used a 7-0 run to claim a 25-18 lead with 4:50 left. AAMU would cut it to three (28-25) but TSU moved back ahead by six following a Bryce Roberts' trey. TSU would ultimately close out the half ahead 31–27.
TSU opened the second half on a 10-2 run to lead 41-32 but AAMU cut the lead to three on two occasions before another Roberts trey moved TSU back on top 45-39 at the 13:19 mark. The Tigers maintained a tight grip on the lead for the next five minutes but AAMU claimed the lead following a trey at the 7:13 mark. From that point, it was back-and-forth with six ties and five lead changes over the final 7:13.
A critical TSU turnover with 50 seconds left led to a pair of free throws and a 66-65 AAMU lead. TSU would miss the go-ahead jumper but claimed the offensive rebound and hit 1-of-2 free throws to knot the game at 66-all. AAMU would miss the game-winning three-pointer to force overtime.
In overtime, Alabama A&M seized momentum early and converted several key possessions while capitalizing at the free-throw line. The Bulldogs outscored Texas Southern 19–8 in the extra session to secure the tournament victory.
Jaylen Wysinger led the way with 16 points followed by 15 from Roberts and 13 from Duane Posey. Alex Anderson grabbed 11 rebounds with eight points.
With the result, Texas Southern concludes its 2025-26 season in the first round for the second straight season, while Alabama A&M advances to the SWAC Tournament semifinals.
