Pate Has Solid 1st Round After Day 1 of Spring Season Opener

The Texas Southern Women's Golf team is in third place after day 1 of the Arcis HBCU Collegiate Golf Championship, hosted by Arcis Golf on Sunday.

Freshman Carmen Pate leads the way for the Tigers, tied for seventh individually at 13-over par. Pate carded an eight-over-par opening round and is currently five over with four holes to play.

A trio of players are two strokes back and tied for 15th place. Senior Azul Amezcua and graduate student Alexa Gonza posted an eight-over-par opening round and are currently seven over with two holes to play. Junior Thaiz Amezcua is currently two over with three holes to play. Freshman Zufan Girad started the day as the clubhouse leader and posted a 7-over-par first round.

The Arcis HBCU Collegiate Golf Championship takes place at  The Club at Weston Hills and was scheduled to be a 54-hole tournament. However, day one was shortened to just under 36 holes due to inclement weather. As a result, the Arcis HBCU Collegiate Golf Championship will be shortened to 45 holes of play and completed on Monday.

The players will complete their second round on Monday at 8:30 a.m. and then have a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. to conclude the final nine holes of the tournament.
