WESTON, Fla. - The Texas Southern Women's Golf team posted a 45-hole total of 779 (319 – 320 – 160) to finish in third place at the end of the third annual Arcis HBCU Golf Championship hosted by Arcis Golf on Monday.
Junior Thaiz Amezcua was the Tigers' top scorer with a fifth-place individual finish. Amezcua posted a two-day total of 198 (85 – 74 – 39), which included a two-over-par second round of 74 and a three-over-par final round. Graduate student Alexa Gonzalez finished two strokes back and tied for ninth individually with her 200 (80 – 82 – 38) total. Senior Azul Amezcua finished tied for 19th after shooting 204 (80 – 83 - 41), while freshmen Carmen Pate and Zufan Girard finished one stroke back with a score 205, respectively.
The Arcis HBCU Collegiate Golf Championship took place at The Club at Weston Hills and was scheduled to be a 54-hole tournament. However, day one was shortened to just under 36 holes due to inclement weather. As a result, the event was shortened to 45 holes of play and completed on Monday. The players completed their second round on Monday at 8:30 a.m. and then concluded the final nine holes of the tournament.
The Tigers are back on the road this weekend, gearing up to compete in the ACU West Texas Classic in Abilene, Texas.
