Three-Day Trek To Louisiana Awaits Softball's 2022 Season Opener

The Texas Southern softball team opens the 2022 season with an intense three-day schedule which begins on Friday afternoon in Lake Charles, La.

TSU, which is predicted to win the SWAC West by the league's head coaches and sports information directors, heads east to Louisiana on Friday for a pair of games at the Evangeline Bank and Trust Invitational on the McNeese State campus.

TSU opens against North Texas at 2:30 p.m. followed by host McNeese State at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, TSU heads to Lafayette, La. and will face nationally ranked Louisiana at 3:30 p.m. before closing out the day with a match-up against North Texas again at 6 p.m.

TSU closes out its travels on Sunday as they'll head back to Lake Charles and will face McNeese State once again at 2:30 p.m.

All games in Lake Charles will be video streamed via McNeesesports.com while Saturday's game versus Louisiana will feature audio only on Ragincajuns.com.

Experience is on TSU's side as nearly the entire 2021 roster returns for second-year head coach Raven Rodriguez. Senior Naomi Reyes was tabbed the Preseason Pitcher of the Year as she concluded the regular season as the SWAC leader in ERA (1.52) in conference play. She's tossed 11 complete games highlighted by three shutouts. At the conclusion of the regular season she ranked 4th in strikeouts with 78 while also throwing her first career perfect game against Alcorn State earlier in the season. She was tabbed for SWAC Pitcher of the Week honors twice in 2021.

Texas Southern led all member institutions with five (5) total preseason selections as outfielder Tevanae Tate and Reyes earned first team preseason honors. Catcher Daryn Haslam, second baseman Crimson Davis and pitcher Jazmine Gendorf were named to the second team.
