The Texas Southern softball team returns to action this weekend to participate in the Islander Classic hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
 
TSU opens up against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1 p.m. followed by a 3:30 p.m. contest versus North Texas. On Saturday, TSU will face North Texas at 10:30 a.m. and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 3:30 p.m.
 
TSU is coming off a 1-4 weekend at the Maverick Classic in Arlington Texas. Despite the record, head coach Worley Barker was pleased with the progress his team is making at this point of the year.
 
"We saw a lot of pluses and minuses last weekend," he said. "It's early in the season but the defense improved a lot, pitching was good but our hitting was not as consistent. We need to cut down on the strikeouts and put the ball in play. Overall, we did well last weekend."
