Alcorn State Rallies Late to Top Texas Southern, 10–6

HOUSTON — Texas Southern built an early five‑run lead, but Alcorn State stormed back with nine runs over the final five innings to hand the Tigers a 10–6 loss Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Park.

Texas Southern capitalized on a wild third inning to jump ahead 5–0. Christopher Chavez opened the scoring with an RBI double to left, and the Tigers drew four bases‑loaded walks in the frame. Miguel Morales, Elijah Rodriguez, and Nate Lopez each recorded an RBI as TSU sent 11 batters to the plate. Byron Robinson also scored on a throwing error during the stretch.

Jonathan Trejo added to the advantage in the sixth with a solo home run to left, pushing the lead to 6–3.

But Alcorn State answered with steady pressure late, scoring once in the fifth, twice in the sixth, once in the seventh, and four times in the eighth. The Braves took their first lead on a two‑run single from Keatan Hawk in the eighth, then added insurance with a bases‑loaded hit‑by‑pitch.

TSU threatened in the ninth with singles from Robinson and Morales, but Alcorn State closer Jacob Wingard recorded the final out to secure the save.

Robinson finished 2‑for‑3 with a triple and a run scored, while Chavez added a double, RBI and run. Morales reached base three times and drove in one. Trejo's sixth‑inning homer marked his team‑leading long ball of the day.

On the mound, starter Joshua Prieto held Alcorn State hitless through four innings and struck out six. Kevin Braziel and Seve Medrano worked in relief before DeMarques Thompson closed the final 1.2 innings.
