Texas Southern erupted for 18 hits and used four multi‑run innings to power past Mississippi Valley State, 16–8, on Friday afternoon at MacGregor Park.
Jonathan Trejo led the offensive onslaught, going 4-for-5 with five RBIs, including a two‑run homer in the fourth and a pair of run‑scoring swings in the seventh and eighth innings. Byron Robinson added three hits and four RBIs of his own, belting two home runs as the Tigers consistently pulled away across the middle and late frames.
Texas Southern struck early with two runs in the first, then pushed across two more in the third behind an RBI double from Robinson and an RBI single from Miguel Morales. Mississippi Valley briefly closed the gap with a three‑run fourth, highlighted by RBI hits from Cody Leming and Kendall Brookins, but TSU immediately answered.
Trejo's two‑run blast and Robinson's solo shot in the bottom of the fourth restored momentum, giving the Tigers a 7–3 advantage. After MVSU rallied again to tie the game at 8–8 in the sixth, Texas Southern took control for good with a three‑run seventh. Trejo's two‑RBI single broke the deadlock, and Morales added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead.
Shaun Williams delivered the knockout punch in the eighth, launching a two‑run homer before Trejo and Robinson added insurance with back‑to‑back run‑producing swings to make it 16–8.
Williams, Trejo, Robinson, Morales, and Nate Lopez all recorded multi‑hit games for TSU. Zachari Pace reached base four times, scored three runs, and added an RBI single in the fifth.
On the mound, Joshua Peña worked 3.2 innings with five strikeouts, while the Tigers' bullpen—led by Seve Medrano's two scoreless frames—held the Delta Devils scoreless over the final three innings.
