Soccer Scores Late For Win Over Grambling State

GRAMBLING, La. - Texas Southern saved the best for the last as Hayden McMillan scored in the 84^th minute as they defeated Grambling State 1-0 on Friday afternoon.
 
Goalie Jaidyn Christophe was busy in the first half as she recorded five saves while Grambling State logged nine shots. Asia Sylvan and Melissa Knutson had TSU's lone shot attempts in the half as both teams remained scoreless entering the half.
 
Christophe was busy once again in the second half with four saves within the first 24 minutes. Knutson recorded TSU's first shot of the half followed by Alexa Blanco's attempt in the 76^th minute. The game's intensity picked up late as GSU was issued a yellow card in the 80^th minute followed by a TSU foul from McMillan. However, McMillan redeemed herself as the game to a close with a game-winning goal while Christophe also came up big with a save in the 88^th minute.
 
Knutson led TSU with two shots while Christophe had 11 saves.
 
The win over Grambling State was TSU's first since 2016 as last year's contest ended in a draw.


TSU is back in action on Sunday at Arkansas-Pine Bluff for a 1 p.m. start.
