NATCHITOCHES, La. – TSU had another back-and-forth affair as they fell 3-0 in its non-conference finale at Northwestern State on Tuesday night.
TSU jumped out to a 3-1 set one lead but Northwestern State reeled off five straight for a 6-4 lead but TSU moved back in front 9-7 after a 5-1 run. NSU scored two straight but the Tigers once again answered with five straight as their lead increased to 14-9. TSU upped the margin to 16-11 but NSU countered with a 7-0 run to move back in front 18-16. TSU added a point to get within 18-17 but the Demons once again responded with a 7-1 set-ending run to win 25-18.
Tied at 5-all in set two, NSU went on a 4-0 run to lead 9-5 but TSU kept it close as they trailed 12-9. NSU kept the back-and-forth affair going as its lead extended to 18-11 but TSU closed to within 19-16. TSU once again closed the gap to 24-21 but NSU closed the set out with a point for a 25-21 win.
Set three was tied at 5-all but a 5-0 run by NSU created a 10-5 deficit. TSU closed to within 10-7 but that would be the closest they would get as NSU gained control and never looked back for a 25-12 win./
Amber Johnson led TSU with seven kills followed by six from Thalia Cordero Moreno. Chenise Cook led TSU with two blocks followed by 13 assists from Dallas Balanay-Flores. Kaitlyn Scroggins had a team-high 11 digs along with six from Alaiyah Fields.
TSU will have nine days off before opening SWAC play on Thursday, Sept. 29 at Prairie View A&M.
