Tigers Prepare For NCAA First Round Opener Thursday Night In Fort Worth

• Texas Southern moves on to the First Round of the NCAA Tournament as they'll face Kansas Thursday night at 8:57 p.m. inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas on truTV.

• TSU has won eight of its past nine games and are back in the first round for the second straight year. TSU earned its way in after defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Dayton on Tuesday night.

• Head coach Johnny Jones hit a career milestone late in 2021 with his 350th career win after the SWAC Tournament semifinal win on March 12. He has faced Kansas' Bill Self once while at North Texas.

• Kansas and TSU will meet for the first time since 2017 and fifth all-time. They've never met in postseason play as this is the first game outside of Lawrence.

• This marks the fourth year for TSU head coach Johnny Jones. TSU is making its third consecutive postseason under Jones and second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.  Jones went 24-14 in his inaugural year as head coach with three Power 5 conference wins. TSU fell in the finals of the 2019 SWAC Tournament and advanced to the semifinals of the CIT in 2019. In 2019-20, the Tigers made it back to the semifinals of the SWAC Tournament after a third-place regular season finish but saw the season end abruptly due to COVID-19. TSU won the SWAC Tournament and First Four contest in 2021

• TSU is 3-9 all-time in NCAA Tournament contests with all three wins in First Four play. TSU has yet to win a first round game with its best performance in 1995 in a 79-78 loss to Arkansas.

• TSU faced off against teams from seven conferences in 2021-22. TSU squared off against teams from the Pac-12 (2), WCC (2), Mountain West, ACC, Conference USA, SEC and WAC.

• TSU head coach Johnny Jones is 8-16 against teams from the Big 12 all-time He has faced every team in the current lineup of the Big 12 except Iowa State.

• TSU is coming off an impressive SWAC Tournament as they claimed the title in a dominant fashion over top-seeded Alcorn State. TSU will carry the banner for the SWAC in the tournament as the league is 3-8 all-time in First Four/Opening Round games. TSU has the two of the SWAC's three opening round wins as Arkansas-Pine Bluff also claimed a win in 2010.

• Jones is 51-32 all-time in the month of March and 22-6 at TSU.

• TSU was picked to finish first by the Southwestern Athletic Conference and finished second overall but surprisingly had no player earn All-SWAC honors.
