Tigers Fall at Georgia 92-75

ATHENS, Ga. – Despite 17 points and three assists from Derrick Bruce, Texas Southern dropped a 92-75 decision to the University of Georgia Monday evening at Stegeman Coliseum.

In all, four players scored in double figures for Texas Southern. Jeremy Combs poured in 15 points along with four boards, and Trayvon Reed added 14 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Justin Hopkins netted 10 points with four rebounds for TSU.

A tight battle early on, Texas Southern twice managed early leads on the Bulldogs thanks to the three-point baskets made. Georgia managed to gain the advantage with a 7-0 run that erased the Tigers' 15-14 lead, and after a lay-up by Hopkins made the game 24-20 in favor of Georgia, the Bulldogs opened up a 15-point lead thanks to a 16-5 run keyed by Nicolas Claxton and Derek Ogbeide. Ultimately, Texas Southern faced a 19-point deficit going into intermission.

The Tigers were unable to make up the deficit as the second half despite matching the Bulldogs on the scoreboard during the frame. TSU trailed by as many as 25 and got no closer than 12 the rest of the way.

Tyree Crump led Georgia with 25 points, going 5-of-7 from downtown. Ogbeide notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Claxton scored 15 points along with seven boards and three blocks.

Texas Southern was outrebounded 50-35 and shot just 35.7 percent (25-of-70) from the field and 9-of-33 (27.4 percent) from deep, compared to Georgia's 48.5 percent (32-of-66) mark from the floor and 11-of-22 line from three-point land.
