HOUSTON – Texas Southern University's Lady Tigers returned to the pitch after a two-week hiatus thanks to Hurricane Harvey on Friday, but could not overcome Lamar as the visiting Cardinals prevailed 3-0.
Â
The Cardinals (5-2) controlled the pace of the match from the opening whistle and held a 27-3 advantage in shots taken. Madison Ledet's strike off a throw-in and deflection in the 21st minute gave Lamar a lead it would not relinquish.
Â
Samantha Moreno and Jordan Mulnix added goals for the Cardinals in the second half.
Â
Alexis Robles played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lady Tigers (1-2-1), making six saves. Her teammates turned away two additional Lamar scores at the goal line during the match.
Â
Maya Turner played 90 minutes in the backfield for the Lady Tigers, while Briana Norwood was on the pitch for 86 minutes.
Â
The Lady Tigers return to action Sunday when they host Conference USA side Southern Mississippi at TSU's Alexander Durley Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
