HOUSTON – Texas Southern (2-5) dropped a hard-fought four-set match to Idaho State Saturday morning at the Houston Cougar Classic.
Both sides posted identical lines, with TSU holding a slight edge in kills (45-42) and both teams responsible for 28 attack errors. The first set got away from the Lady Tigers when – while trailing 15-14 – they surrendered a 10-4 set-closing run. Texas Southern rebounded to take set two, overcoming a 16-10 deficit to win it with a 15-4 run.
In set three, Texas Southern pushed ahead with an 18-13 lead, but was unable to protect it as they were outscored 12-2 the rest of the way. The situation repeated itself in the fourth and final set, as the Lady Tigers coughed up an 11-10 lead thanks to a 10-2 scoring advantage for ISU, who coasted to the win.
Audriana Carson posted a team-high 12 kills and five digs. Kali Fluke, who was named to the all-tournament team, posted 11 kills to go along with four blocks. Allison Woods posted 20 digs, and Ellena Torres was a dig shy of a double-double, with 18 helpers and nine digs.
