SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Texas Southern dropped its first match of the Incarnate Word Cardinal Classic to Fresno State Friday afternoon.
TSU (2-6) fell behind early in set one, allowing 11 of the match's first 15 points on its way to trailing by as many as 14 in the opening game.
Set two was more hotly contested, with the Lady Tigers remaining in striking distance and getting to within one (20-19) before a 5-0 run sealed it for the Bulldogs.
Texas Southern was unable to threaten much during the final set.
Kali Fluke led Texas Southern with six kills. Allison Woods pitched in 13 digs for the Lady Tigers.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Texas Southern dropped a closely-contested three-setter to home-standing Incarnate Word Friday evening during UIW's Cardinal Classic.
The Lady Tigers (2-7) were done in during set one thanks to a fast start by UIW, who scored the frame's first six points and led by as many as nine during the fray.
In set two, TSU returned the favor with a 5-0 period-opening run that eventually became a 14-10 lead. The Lady Tigers held a 20-19 lead late, but UIW reeled off five straight points to steal a 2-0 set advantage.
Texas Southern and UIW traded shots in the final set, and TSU looked poised to nab a set of their own after tying things at 22, but the Cardinals outlasted the Lady Tigers' late charge.
Audriana Carson led Texas Southern with nine kills, and Kali Fluke added seven.
