MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A 20-kill effort from Kali Fluke was not enough for Texas Southern to overcome Maryland Eastern Shore during Saturday action at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup 1.
The four-set match started off on the right foot for TSU (0-3), who responded to a five-point run by UMES – which gave the Hawks a 13-12 lead – with a five-point burst of its own to go up 17-13. UMES got to within one (18-17) during the opening frame, but TSU put up five of the next six points to keep control.
In the remaining sets, however, the Lady Tigers were able to build leads only to surrender them in the late stages. Texas Southern lost advantages of 17-15 (third set) and 22-21 (fourth set) during the fray.
Fluke hit at a .485 clip during the match. Audriana Carson put up eight digs, seven kills, four aces, four assists and a block for TSU.
