HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- Derrick Griffin scored 16 points with 16 rebounds and Texas Southern stayed unbeaten in Southwestern Conference play, topping Alabama A&M 71-66 on Monday night.
Griffin, a freshman who was named conference player of the week last week, was 7 of 8 from the field and recorded his 10th career double-double and seventh in league play.
The Tigers shot over 49 percent hitting 14 of 24 (58.3 percent) field-goal attempts in the second half -- despite going 4 of 17 from beyond the arc.
Jose Rodriguez scored 15 points, Chris Thomas scored 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and David Blanks added 13 points.
Alabama A&M was led by Nicholas West with 22 points and seven rebounds. Quinterian McConico and Arthur Wade scored 11 points apiece.
The Bulldogs were forced to shooting under 39 percent and made just 6 of 21 on three point attempts.
