PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Texas Southern Lady Tigers withstood a spirited challenge from Prairie View A&M on Thursday as they defeated the Lady Panthers in four sets.

Scores of the match were 25-22, 23-25, 25-14, and 27-25.

Kali Fluke knocked down 12 kills to lead Texas Southern (15-9) as the Lady Tigers improved their record in Southwestern Athletic Conference play to 11-1. Fluke also blocked four PVAMU attacks.

Nicole Robinson added 10 kills and Cassidy Jannson and Ashlynn Caldwell chipped in eight apiece. Caldwell hit .615 for the match as she committed no errors during her 13 total attacks.

The Lady Panthers (8-14, 7-5 SWAC) got a match-high 24 kills from Taylor Goudeau Calli Jordan Hensch knocked down 17 kills for the home team.

Ellena Torres posted the first double-double of her TSU career, handing out 24 assists and recording 11 digs. Allison Woods led the defensive effort with 14 digs, while Asia Howard chipped in 13 assists.

TSU created a comfortable lead with a 6-2 run midway through the opening set that stretched its lead to 18-12. Later, a run of four unanswered points by PVAMU closed the gap to 23-21 before the Lady Tigers put the set away; TSU's final point of the set was gifted ball-handling error by one of PVAMU's players who is not a setter.

Set three saw the Lady Tigers piece together four different runs of three or more points to methodically pull away from their hosts. In set four, TSU held a 23-20 lead before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-1 run, but the Lady Panthers squandered set point with a service error. A kill by Fluke and an attack error by Goudeau gave TSU the set and the match.

The Lady Tigers return to action next Friday, Nov. 4, when they open a two-match Alabama trip at Alabama A&M. Match time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
