Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Texas Southern remained unbeaten in Southwestern Athletic Conference play holding on to a 75-72 victory over Alabama State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday night

Derrick Griffin picked up his ninth double-double and sixth in league play scoring 19 points with 15 rebounds and four blocked shots for the Tigers.

TSU led by six with 29 seconds to go, but Terrance LeFlore made a layup, and after a turnover Jamel Waters nailed a 3-pointer to draw Alabama State to within one, 73-72, with 15 seconds remaining.

The Hornets put David Blanks on the line, and he made a pair to make it a three point game. On the next possession, Steve Rogers missed a three pointer and Corvon Butler grabbed the rebound for ASU, but his follow-up was blocked by Griffin as the Hornets ran out of time.

ASU was led by Waters with 18 points and eight assists. Butler finished with 15 points and a career-high 14 boards.

Texas Southern will travel to face Alabama A&M on Monday to close out a two-game road swing.
