Prairie View A&M defeats Texas Southern 38-11

HOUSTON- Prairie View A&M defeated Southwestern Athletic Conference rival Texas Southern, 38-11 in the season opener for both teams Saturday night.  The Labor Day Classic from BBVA Compass Stadium was the only conference game in the league.

PVAMU's Tray Green ran 80 yards for his first score in the opening minutes of the game and the Panthers held a 10-3 lead at halftime. He scored from the two yard line early in the third quarter and Johnta Hebert added an 11-yard run for a score to give the Panthers a 24-3 lead after three quarters.

After Green threw 11 yards to Nick Pitre for a 7-yard score to make it 31-3, Averion Hurts got Texas Southern into the end zone with a 5-yard toss to Larry Clark III.

Malik Cross hauled eight passes totaling 65 yards for TSU.  Courtney Brown, Green and Hebert combined for 224 yards on the ground for the Panthers.

Texas Southern will host Bacone College this Friday, Sept. 11th, at 7:00 pm at BBVA Compass Stadium.
