Tigers Football releases 2016 schedule

2016 Schedule

HOUSTON- The Texas Southern Tigers football program has released their upcoming schedule for the 2016 campaign.

Texas Southern will host a total five home games next season. In addition eight out of eleven TSU Tigers football games next season are set to take place in the state of Texas.

TSU opens the season on the road on Sept. 4 versus crosstown rival Prairie View A&M. The game will be played in Prairie View for the first time in decades as the Panthers will get set to open a new stadium.

The Tigers will not have to travel far to face their next opponent as Texas Southern stays within the city limits the following week with a non-conference match-up versus Houston Baptist (Sept. 10).

Texas Southern will host its home opener on Sept. 17 when they take on Mississippi Valley State at BBVA Compass Stadium. TSU goes to Alabama to play Alabama State (Sept. 24), and the next week the Tigers host Alabama A&M (Oct. 1).

TSU travels on the road to face the defending SWAC Champions, Alcorn State (Oct. 15), before returning home to play three out of its last five games at the friendly confines of BBVA Compass Stadium.

Jackson State will be the Tigers Homecoming opponent (Oct. 22) and the Tigers will close out the road portion of their schedule the following two weeks versus Sam Houston State (Oct. 29), and Southern (Nov. 5).

The final two games of the Tigers season will be against SWAC Western Division foes Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Nov. 12) and Grambling State (Nov. 19).

"This is a really good schedule," said TSU head coach Michael Haywood. "We have some quality opponents that we will face next season and we're excited about the opportunity to go out and compete each week."
