NASSUA, Bahamas- The Texas Southern Tigers football team defeated Central State by a score of 30-16 in the Inaugural HBCUX Classic. The Tigers improved their record to 3-0 with the win marking the first time since 2000 the Tigers have started the year with three straight victories.Â
Jamal Small went 17-of-31 for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively Texas Southern was led by lineback Darian Claiborne who tallied a team high seven tackles for the night. Tray Walker also contributed with an interception marking his thrid straight contest with a pick.Â
The Tigers dominated on both sides of the ball for most of the game. TSU led 13-3 at intermission and held a comfortable advantage for most of the contest. Larry Clark III had five receptions for 81 yards with a long of 25 yards.
"I'm really proud of the way our guys handled themselves out here," said TSU head coach Darrell Asberry. "They stayed focused and disciplined and they took care of business. Now it's time for us to start preparing for Alabama A&M."Â
Texas Southern returns home next weekend to face Alabama A&M at 7:00 p.m. at BBVA Compass Stadium. Â
