Tigers Finish 3 Feet from Victory

HUNTSVILLE, AL- Three feet separated the Texas Southern Tigers from capturing their first win of the season when they faced Alabama A&M in Huntsville, AL.
 
This game was a battle from start to finish.  Alabama A&M got on the board first when they scored a touchdown with seconds left in the first quarter.  The extra point was missed and they led 6-0.
 
Alabama A&M setup to score again midway through the second quarter but Michael Holmes blocked the 26 yard field goal attempt.
 
TSU got the ball and drove 44 yards for an opportunity to get within three points of the lead.   Eric Medina hit the 35 yard field goal and TSU trailed 6-3 going into half time.
 
Texas Southern took advantage of another opportunity to score at the end of the third quarter.  Edward Perkins-Loving capped a 66 yard drive with a 6 yard touchdown run.  TSU had their first lead of the game, 10-6.
 
Both teams fought hard in the fourth quarter.  The Tigers defense held Alabama A&M for most of the quarter.   The bulldogs were down to their last drive of the game and took the ball 49 yards for a touchdown.  They missed the extra point and led 12-10 with 1:39 left to play.
 
Texas Southern started their drive on their own 42 yard line after a 20 yard kickoff return by Remond Silas.
 
The Tigers drove 33 yards to Alabama A&M's 25 yard line with 18 seconds left in the game.  TSU had a 42 yard field goal to capture their first victory of the season.  However, this would not be the night. The kick went left about three feet of the uprights.
 
Senior receiver Jaquaa Peters had a career game with 5 catches for 121 yards.  Quarterback Homer Causey completed 12 of 25 passes with no interceptions…his best game of the year.  Daveonn Porter had 37 yards rushing.
 
Defensively, Holmes has the best game of his career with 10 tackles (6 solo) and a blocked field goal.  Tray Walker has 7 tackles and a pass breakup. Jarius Moore had 2 TFL and a break up and Amir Bloom had three tackles, a sack and 2 TFL.

The Tigers return home to host Alabama State in BBVA Compass Stadium on October 5th at 6:00pm.
