Jocelyn Adams

Jocelyn Adams was named Texas Southern University’s third volleyball head coach in June 2011. She wasted no time in turning the Texas Southern Lady Tigers volleyball program into a competitive force within the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The Lady Tigers won three SWAC West Championships (2013-15) and have finished no less than third place since the scheduling format changed to allow all SWAC teams to play each other beginning the 2016 season. TSU finished the 2016 and 2017 seasons as SWAC Tournament Runner-Ups and advanced to the tournament semifinals in 2018.

Nine student-athletes have received All-SWAC honors under Adams' watch including 2014 SWAC Co-Player of the Year Kali Fluke and 2014 SWAC Freshman of the Year Robyn Shannon.

Adams has coached volleyball on the high school and college NCAA Division I level. The Houston native joined TSU after serving as the head coach at Eisenhower High School where her teams won back to back Bi-District Championships in 2008-09 and 2009-10, and she was the 2008 District 19-5A Coach of the Year. Adams was also the 2009 District 19-5A Co-coach of the Year.

Before joining Eisenhower, Adams was the volleyball head coach at Prairie View A&M from 1990-1999. In 1990, she was named SWAC Coach of the Year. In 1992, her team captured the SWAC Championship Tournament Title.

Adams is a 1983 graduate of Smiley High School and she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Health and Physical Education from Prairie View A&M in 1987 and 1992 respectfully.

Adams left Prairie View in 1999 and returned to coaching in 2004. Her first passion was track where she was an eight time All-American, SWAC Champion and National Champion when she competed at Prairie View. She is a member of the SWAC and Texas Black Sports Hall of Fames.

She has been recognized as a game changer for women’s coaches and was presented with certificates of appreciation from Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., the City of Houston, Mayor Sylvester Turner, Congresswoman and Congressman Shelia Jackson Lee and Al Green respectively.

Adams is married to Eric and the couple has two girls, Erin, a former TSU volleyball student-athlete, and Brooke.
