Crystal Ndidi Ibe was announced as an assistant coach for the Texas Southern University women’s volleyball program in August 2022.
Ibe makes her return to TSU while also maintaining her career as an attorney and owner of her own law firm.
Crystal Ndidi Ibe (then known on the roster as “Ndidi Ibe”) began her undergraduate education and collegiate volleyball career at the United States Naval Academy on a full volleyball scholarship after receiving her nomination to attend from then-Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Ibe helped the Midshipmen clench their first win in five years against rival service academy, West Point.
After two years at the Naval Academy, Ibe transferred to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (“UMES”). In only two seasons at UMES, Ibe became the school’s All-Time Blocks Leader and helped her team win back-to-back MEAC Championships (2011 and 2012) – the only MEAC Championships in the program’s history. Ibe garnered multiple accolades at UMES, including being nationally ranked in blocks per set and hitting percentage, being named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center (“PRMC”) UMES Athlete of the Week multiple times and MEAC Player of the Week, and receiving 1st Team All-MEAC Team, MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team, and MEAC All-Academic Team honors. Ibe was also the only MEAC player and middle hitter selected to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (“ECAC”) Division I Volleyball All-Star Team in her 2012 season as team captain. Ibe graduated from UMES Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in English in 2013.
From there, Ibe attended law school at Thurgood Marshall School of Law of Texas Southern University. While in law school, Ibe was the volunteer assistant coach of the Texas Southern University volleyball team and the head coach of the 17U club volleyball team at Breakaway Speed Sports Complex. She also played on TSU’s club volleyball team, helping them win the Houston Club Sports Conference Women’s Championship in 2014 and being named MVP.
After graduating from TMSL in 2016, Ibe began her career as a lawyer and opened The Ibe Law Firm.
Outside of law and volleyball, Ibe is committed to public service and community advancement. She formerly served as Secretary of the Dallas-Fort Worth Professionals Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers and as an appointed member of the North Richland Hills Zoning Board of Adjustment. She currently serves as the Public Relations Director of A Change Is Coming Scholarship Fund and as a member of the Northeast Tarrant County Chamber of Commerce. Most recently, Ms. Ibe was a candidate for North Richland Hills City Council in the May 2021 General Election.
