Johnnie Williams was named the Director of Operations for the TSU Basketball program prior to the 2018-19 campaign. Williams brings an extensive basketball resume to the Tigers program.
Throughout his career, he has been able to view the sport of basketball from a student-athlete, coach and administrators point of view. He has experience with several programs he’s coordinated coaching and operations with and this skill set should help transcend TSU to even greater heights.
Williams has eight years of coaching experience between the high school and collegiate levels. He has also spent time as an assistant coach at Illinois Central College, Grambling State University, and Benedictine-Springfield University.
He served as the head coach at Holt High School and assistant coach at Kirkwood High School. During his time as a collegiate coach he helped produce multiple All-Conference players at the NCAA-Division I and NCAA-Division II levels.
Williams thrives in creating programs to further the growth and education of the student-athletes he works with, all while promoting the athletic program through various programs such as community events, public speaking, fundraising events and marketing. Throughout his career he has demonstrated the passion to work with men’s basketball programs to meet all operational requirements and functions.
As a student-athlete Williams played basketball at Marion High School from 1987-90 before playing one year at Creighton University. He would go on to finish his collegiate career at Morehead University where he scored a total of 1083 points, along with 222 assists and 378 rebounds.
Williams resides in Katy with wife Adrea, and children Jazmyn, Olivia, and Johnnie III.
