PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Prairie View A&M used a dominant second half to pull away from Texas Southern, defeating the Tigers 52-14 on Sunday at Panther Stadium at Blackshear Field.

Texas Southern (1-1, 0-1 SWAC) stayed within striking distance at halftime, trailing 17-7, but Prairie View (1-1, 1-0 SWAC) erupted for 28 points in the third quarter to take control of the contest.

The Panthers opened the scoring just 15 seconds into the game when Jahbari Kuykendall returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Prairie View added a 24-yard touchdown pass from Tevin Carter to Damien McDaniel before Ethan Eddins connected on a 37-yard field goal to give the Panthers a 17-0 advantage after the opening quarter.

After a lengthy lightning delay early in the second quarter, Texas Southern finally awoke a Cam'Ron McCoy capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive with a 17-yard touchdown run, cutting the deficit to 17-7. The offense had two more opportunities to cut into the deficit or even take the lead but fumbled deep in PVAMU territory followed by a missed field goal at the end of the half.

TSU went three-and-out to open the third quarter and PVAMU quickly took over.

Carter opened the third-quarter scoring with a 24-yard touchdown run before connecting with Travon Jones on a 39-yard scoring strike. Chase Bingmon then added a 46-yard touchdown reception and a two-yard rushing touchdown as Prairie View scored four times in the quarter to extend its lead to 45-7.

Jones added his second touchdown of the afternoon on a two-yard reception early in the fourth quarter, giving Prairie View a 52-7 advantage. Texas Southern closed the scoring with Ri'Jon Hammond's eight-yard touchdown run with five seconds remaining.

For Texas Southern, Athean Renfro led the rushing attack with 85 yards on 17 carries. Hammond added 45 rushing yards and a touchdown, while McCoy accounted for 34 rushing yards and a score.

The Tigers finished with 318 total yards, including 216 rushing yards, while Prairie View accumulated 398 yards of total offense. Prairie View's defense also recorded seven sacks, limiting Texas Southern to 102 passing yards.

Texas Southern held the ball for 40:22 and converted 7 of 18 third downs, but two lost fumbles.

TSU is back in action at 8 p.m. versus UTEP in El Paso, Texas.
