The Texas Southern men's golf team posted a 54-hole total of 905 (302 – 304 - 299) to finish 12th overall at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic hosted by Rice University.
Thunderstorms late Monday afternoon delayed the conclusion of the opening rounds, so round two had to be completed before the final round could begin on Tuesday.
Sophomore Javier Vazquez moved up 10 spots on the leaderboard as was tied for 30th and was the top finisher for the Tigers with his three-over-par 219 (75 – 73 – 71) finish. Vazquez carded a one-under-par final round which included four birdies, 11 pars, and three bogeys. Junior Yashal Shal finished four shots back with a 223 (73 – 72 – 78), while freshman Justin Tang shot 233 (74 – 79 – 80). Freshman Lawson Hefferna posted a 237 total which included a three-over-par final round, while senior Bradley Lavinier posted a 238 total score.
The Bayou City Collegiate Classic was hosted at Westwood Golf Club in Houston, Texas, with a field that included Abilene Christian, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Middle Tennessee, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston, Samford, Texas Southern, UT Arlington, UTGRV, and Valparaiso.
The Tigers are on the road Oct. 18-20, where they will compete in the LaTour Intercollegiate, hosted at LaTour Golf Club in Mathews, La.
