STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Texas Southern women's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to Tarleton State on Thursday night at the Tarleton State Soccer Complex.

The Tigers recorded an early shot 12 minutes in by Alyssa Valdez while Tarleton added a pair of attempts six minutes later, with the latter saved by goalie Alicia Audu. However, the Tigers would enter halftime down 1-0 after a Tarleton goal in the 22nd minute.

Tarleton extended its lead in the 65th minute, putting the Texans ahead 2-0. Despite the deficit, Texas Southern continued to pressure the Tarleton defense and finally broke through late in the match.

Ava Coverdale scored in the 88th minute, her second goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 2-1 as time would run out before TSU could attempt an equalizing shot.

Tarleton finished with a 20-8 advantage in shots and put 13 attempts on target compared with three for Texas Southern. The Tigers received a strong performance in goal, with Alessandra Bastidas making seven saves in 37:32 of action after Alicia Audu recorded four saves in the opening 52:28.

Coverdale led Texas Southern with three shots and scored on her lone shot on goal. Lucyna Smith also recorded a shot on target, while Gabby Gonzalez had one shot on goal.

Texas Southern is back in action on Sunday at Abilene Christian for a 1 p.m. kick.
