The Texas Southern women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Stephen F. Austin Thursday night at Durley Field.
The Lady Tigers battled throughout the opening half, but SFA broke through in the 23rd minute when Savanna Oberholtzer scored at the 22:34 mark to give the Ladyjacks a 1-0 advantage.
Texas Southern created several opportunities in the opening half, including an early shot by Savannah Muldrew that was saved by SFA goalkeeper Brandie Musser. Ava Coverdale also recorded a first-half attempt as TSU continued to pressure the SFA defense.
"We had a very good first half and were in full control of the game, especially in possession. We didn't create as many opportunities as we would have liked from that possession.  Unfortunately, we gave them one quality opportunity, and they buried it," said head coach Danesha Adams.
SFA carried its 1-0 lead into halftime before adding to the advantage just 64 seconds into the second half. Lucie Platt converted a penalty kick at 46:04 to make it 2-0.
The Lady Tigers continued to compete offensively, with Coverdale forcing another save from Musser in the 52nd minute. Jiselle Caffey also put a shot on target in the 58th minute, but Musser made the stop.
SFA extended its lead in the 63rd minute when Platt scored her second goal of the night, with Amélie Prié providing the assist.
"We came out in the second half and, unfortunately, didn't have the same effort or intensity we had in the first half, giving up a goal just 50 seconds in. From there, I thought our mentality changed. We lacked a sense of urgency, leadership, and competitiveness on the field.
"We'll regroup and continue to work. This is a young team but it doesn't get any easier," added Adams.
Texas Southern finished with five shots, including three on goal, while SFA produced 15 shots with 10 on target. TSU earned four corner kicks compared with two for the Ladyjacks.
Alicia Audu played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lady Tigers and made seven saves.
Coverdale and Muldrew led Texas Southern with two shots apiece, while Caffey added one shot on goal.
TSU is back in action at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the University of Houston.
