Soccer To Host HCU Sunday Afternoon In Home Opener

• Texas Southern prepares for its home opener Sunday afternoon against Houston Christian at 1 p.m. inside Durley Stadium.

• TSU's schedule features 10 non-conference contests and eight league contests. TSU has a regional friendly schedule as they won't leave the state of Texas until the start of SWAC play on Sept. 27 against UAPB.

• Picked fifth in the preseason poll, TSU finished tied for third in the SWAC with a 5-2-1 mark in head coach Danesha Adams' first season. 

• Adams is 10-8-5 all-time in the month of August and 2-3-1 at TSU. However, the 2025 season came to an abrupt end in the first round of the SWAC Tournament to Alcorn State.

• The Tigers lost a large amount of letterwinners at the close of the 2025 season which sent head coach Danesha Adams into recruiting mode at the end of the year. TSU welcomes 14 newcomers and 15 letterwinners for the 2026 season.

• TSU head coach Danesha Adams faces HCU for the second time in her career as she squared off against HCU while at Pacific in 2024. She claimed a 2-1 win as the game was played in California.

• TSU faces HCU for the first time since 2023. HCU holds a 9-0 record all-time against TSU. HCU senior Isabella Dillow began her career at TSU as she was the SWAC's Freshman of the Year and Co-Offensive Player of the Year during her tenure. HCU goalkeepers coach Jason Cherry was also a member of the TSU coaching staff the past few years.

• A host of newcomers played a big role in Thursday's win at UTRGV as Alana Aiken and Jiselle Caffey scored goals while Illena Guzman and Ava Coverdale had assists.

• TSU defender Kaia Butler was named to the 2026 AII-SWAC Presea­son Second Team.
