TSU to Host Inaugural TSU Takeover Day on April 11

HOUSTON — Texas Southern University will launch its inaugural TSU Takeover Day on Saturday, April 11, introducing a new campus tradition designed to highlight Tiger pride and unite the community around athletics.

This year's celebration expands beyond TSU's own programs with the addition of a special MLB Kids Camp, which will kick off the day's activities. Check‑in for the camp begins at 8:30 a.m., giving young participants an early start to a full slate of engagement, instruction and community spirit.

The action continues at 1 p.m. with the TSU Football spring game at Durley Field. The game will also serve as an activation event for the Tiger Cub Club, offering young fans interactive activities and opportunities to connect with TSU student‑athletes.

Head Football Coach Cris Dishman emphasized the importance of community involvement, saying, "TSU Takeover Day gives our fans a chance to see the growth, the energy and the commitment our players bring every day. Having the community behind us means everything, and we're excited to showcase what we've been building."

TSU Baseball will carry the momentum into the afternoon with a 4 p.m. first pitch at MacGregor Park as the Tigers compete in conference play. Head Baseball Coach Ely Gallego highlighted the value of fan support, saying, "Coming out and supporting and being able to see the hard work that the players have put in over the last couple of months and overall support of all programs at TSU."

Athletics officials said the goal of TSU Takeover Day is to strengthen the connection between the university's programs and the broader TSU community. Dr. Paula Jackson noted that "This is an opportunity for our students, alumni and supporters to come together and celebrate everything that makes TSU special. From the spring game to baseball at MacGregor Park, it's a full day of Tiger spirit."

Fans can expect spirit activations, engagement opportunities and giveaways throughout the day. TSU encourages the community to attend all events — from the MLB Kids Camp to the spring game to baseball — and help establish TSU Takeover Day as an annual tradition that grows year after year.
