EDINBURG, Texas — Texas Southern opened strong with early home runs but was unable to maintain momentum Tuesday night, falling 5–3 to UTRGV at UTRGV Baseball Stadium. The Tigers and Vaqueros each tallied eight runners left on base, but late scoring from UTRGV proved to be the difference.

TSU struck first in the opening inning when Zachari Pace reached on an error, stole second, and scored on an RBI single from Byron Robinson. After UTRGV answered with a solo home run in the bottom half, the Tigers reclaimed the lead in the third on a deep home run to center by Shaun Williams. Jonathan Trejo extended the advantage in the fourth inning with a solo home run of his own, giving TSU a 3–1 lead.

UTRGV capitalized on control issues in the fifth, using three walks, a defensive error, and multiple wild pitches to plate two runs and tie the game. The Tigers held the Vaqueros scoreless through the sixth and seventh innings, but UTRGV broke through again in the eighth with two runs on three hits—including an RBI double—to take a 5–3 lead.

Texas Southern collected eight hits on the night, led by Robinson's 2-4 performance with an RBI. Trejo and Williams each recorded a home run and an RBI. Pace also added a hit and stole two bases. TSU finished just 1-11 with runners in scoring position.

Starter Zac Laviage worked 4.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and five walks while striking out three. Mikelle Mason and Dalton Alford combined for 1.2 scoreless innings before Jace Maynard (0–1) took the loss after surrendering the go‑ahead runs in the eighth.
