Grambling State scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning to pull away from Texas Southern and secure a 9–5 win in extra innings on Saturday afternoon at MacGregor Park.
Texas Southern erased a three-run deficit late and tied the game in the eighth inning, but the Tigers could not contain Grambling's offense in the decisive frame as the visitors snapped a 5–5 deadlock with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning.
The Lady Tigers struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on two Grambling errors. Zachari Pace scored on a wild pitch before Byron Robinson doubled to center field to bring home Christopher Chavez and give Texas Southern an early 2–0 advantage.
Grambling answered with single runs in the second and third innings, including a solo home run from Charles Ashe III in the second. The Tigers took their first lead in the fourth inning when Trey Bridges delivered a two-run single, putting Grambling ahead 4–2.
After Grambling extended its lead to 5–2 in the seventh, Texas Southern sparked a rally in the bottom half of the inning. Miguel Morales drove in Jonathan Trejo with a single to cut the deficit to two. The Lady Tigers then tied the game in the eighth as Marco Mueses launched a pinch-hit solo home run, followed by an RBI single from Trejo that scored Nate Lopez.
Neither team scored in the ninth, sending the game into extra innings. Grambling took control in the 10th, as Bridges delivered his second two-run single of the game before additional runs scored on a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.
Trejo paced Texas Southern offensively, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Morales added two hits and an RBI, while Mueses provided a key pinch-hit home run. Robinson chipped in an RBI double in the first inning.
On the mound, Dalton Alford and Kevin Braziel combined to hold Grambling scoreless from the fifth through the sixth innings, with Braziel allowing just one run over 3.1 innings of relief before the decisive 10th.
Grambling's Bridges led all hitters with three hits and five RBIs. Hampton Phillips earned the win after throwing two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
