HOUSTON — Texas Southern built an early six‑run lead and held a 12–11 advantage entering the ninth inning, but Jackson State stormed back with a five‑run final frame to hand TSU a 17–12 loss Sunday afternoon at MacGregor Park.
The Tigers erupted for five runs in the first inning, capitalizing on early baserunners as Byron Robinson delivered a two‑RBI single before Miguel Morales and Shaun Williams added runs to make it 5–0. Zachari Pace extended the lead to 6–0 in the second with a solo home run.
Jackson State slowly chipped away, highlighted by a three‑run fourth inning and solo home runs from Tyshon Patty and Robert Tate Jr. in the sixth to tie the game at 6–6.
Evan Joubert put TSU back in front in the bottom of the sixth with a two‑RBI single, and the Tigers tacked on four more runs in the seventh—fueled by RBI hits from Nate Lopez and Christopher Chavez, followed by a bases‑loaded walk drawn by Joubert—to take a 12–7 lead.
Jackson State answered with five runs across the eighth and ninth innings, capped by Tate Jr.'s two‑RBI triple in the ninth and a two‑run homer from Pierre Cabral to surge ahead 17–12. TSU was unable to respond in the bottom half.
Chavez recorded a team‑high four hits with two RBI, while Joubert drove in three runs and Pace scored three times. Lopez added two hits, two runs and an RBI. Starter Justin Mays struck out 11 over six innings for TSU.
