CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas Southern built an early lead Wednesday afternoon, but Texas A&M–Corpus Christi used late-inning momentum to hand the Tigers a 5–4 loss at Chapman Field.
Texas Southern jumped ahead with a run in the first and added two more in the third, then extended its lead to 4–2 in the sixth on an RBI single from Tanner Marek. Jonathan Trejo also drove in a run and scored twice, helping fuel the Tigers' offense. Christopher Chavez turned in a strong day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4.
Collin Dennis gave the Tigers five steady innings in the start, allowing two runs on four hits before turning things over to the bullpen. The Islanders capitalized in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring three combined runs to take their first lead of the game.
