TSU Explodes for 16 Runs to Defeat Texas A&M–Corpus Christi on the Road

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas Southern erupted for 10 runs in the third inning and never looked back, powering past Texas A&M–Corpus Christi 16–4 on Sunday afternoon at Chapman Field.

TSU delivered one of its most complete offensive performances of the season, collecting 15 hits while capitalizing on seven walks. The Tigers broke open a scoreless game with a third‑inning outburst highlighted by extra‑base hits from Jonathan Trejo, Nate Lopez, and Byron Robinson. The Tigers added four runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Right fielder Christopher Chavez opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly, while infielder Nate Lopez went 3-for-5 with three RBI, including a two‑run double. Byron Robinson also posted a three‑hit day with three RBI, and Evan Joubert crossed the plate three times while adding two hits and two RBI. Left fielder Marco Mueses scored four times despite recording just one hit, contributing heavily to TSU's aggressive baserunning and pressure on Islander pitching.

On the mound, Justin Mayes earned the win, working five innings while striking out seven. He allowed four runs—two earned—on four hits and five walks. Dalton Alford closed the final two innings, yielding just one hit and no runs.

A&M–Corpus Christi managed five hits, including two doubles from Noah Cassie. The Islanders scored three in the fourth and one in the fifth, but were held scoreless the rest of the way. TSU limited AMCC to 2-for-12 hitting with runners in scoring position.

Texas Southern finished 10-for-21 with runners in scoring position and stole three bases in the win. The Tigers committed just one error while stranding seven runners.
