PEARL, Miss. — Texas Southern rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Grambling State 9–8 on Saturday morning at Trustmark Park, completing a comeback win to improve to 2–0 on the season.
Down 8–6 entering the final frame, the Tigers loaded the bases after a walk to Jalen Trejo, a single from Christian Chavez and a walk to catcher Matthew Morales. Pinch hitter Braylon Robinson then drew a bases‑loaded walk to pull TSU within one. Moments later, a ground ball by Austin Ruiz resulted in a throwing error that allowed two unearned runs to score, sealing the walk‑off victory.
Trejo led TSU at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Chavez and Morales each added two hits, while third baseman Tyler Marek went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs. Texas Southern finished with 11 hits on the day.
Grambling built leads of 4–2 and 7–4 behind a strong offensive start. Cameron Hill homered in the second inning and drove in three runs, while second baseman Shane Martin went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Grambling totaled nine hits and drew 11 walks.
Myles Mason earned the win for TSU after tossing the final inning and working out of a two‑on, no‑out jam. He anchored a bullpen that stabilized the game after Grambling's early surge. TSU pitchers combined for five strikeouts and induced two key double plays.
Hector Phillips pitched effectively in relief for Grambling, but reliever Rickey Capistran took the loss after allowing the ninth‑inning rally.
