Tigers Sting Hornets With Complete Performance

Texas Southern played its most complete game of the season as six players scored in double figures during a 96-64 win over Alabama State Tuesday afternoon.

TSU stormed out to a 22-10 lead eight minutes in as the shots were falling early. Five players managed to score during the early surge as Bryce Roberts and Zaire Hayes both scored 12 points while the team was perfect from the charity stripe (6-for-6). The Hornets nearly shot 50 percent from the field but TSU held one of the better three-point shooting teams in the league to an 0-for-5 start while forcing three turnovers.

After scoring 57 second-half points on Saturday afternoon, the Tiger offense continued to step up the intensity even higher over the next 6:43 with a 17-9 run as Jaylen Wysinger got in on the act with six points as TSU was 6-of-9 from the field including three, three-pointers. The Tiger defense stepped it up also as they forced three turnovers during that span as they led 35-19 with 6:04 remaining. Both teams matched each other's output the rest of the way as TSU entered the second half ahead 43-29.

Alabama State and TSU once again continued to go back-and-forth within the first seven minutes as TSU never allowed ASU to gain much ground as the closest they would get is 12 points. Once again, the Tigers put together another 50-point second-half surge as they nearly doubled ASU's point production (39-23) over the final 12:50 en route to the home sweep.

Everyone who donned a TSU jersey on Tuesday found themselves in the scorebook as Hayes led the way with 17. Alex Anderson followed with 16 points while Wysinger, Roberts, Troy Hupstead and

Duane Posey scored 16, 15, 13, 10 and 10 points respectively. Hupstead once again had a double-double with 16 rebounds while Anderson, Zytarious Mortle and Wysinger dished out four assists apiece. Both Hupstead and Jordan Gorecki finished with two blocks.

TSU stays in the area this weekend as they head to Prairie View A&M on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
