GRAMBLING, La. — Texas Southern erased a nine‑point second‑half deficit and closed on a decisive fourth‑quarter surge to beat Grambling State 61–58 on Thursday night at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

Daeja Holmes led TSU with 18 points, including several crucial baskets during the Tigers' late push. Aaliyah Henderson added 14 points, hitting key free throws down the stretch as Texas Southern opened conference play with a road win.

Grambling held its largest lead, 46–37, with 2:24 left in the third quarter following a burst sparked by Shaniah Nunn and Alieghya Bartholomew. But Texas Southern responded with poise, holding Grambling without a field goal for long stretches while converting second‑chance opportunities on the other end.

Texas Southern tied the game 46–46 early in the fourth when Jordyn Marshall converted a fast‑break layup off a steal. After Grambling briefly regained control, Holmes drilled a clutch step‑back 3‑pointer at the 3:10 mark to tie the game again at 55–55, swinging momentum back to TSU.

On the next possession, Henderson delivered one of the game's biggest plays — a fast‑break layup off a turnover — giving TSU a 57–55 lead with 2:39 remaining. Moments later, Maci Quiller added another transition bucket for a 59–55 advantage, capping a 7–0 run fueled by defensive pressure.

Grambling closed within three after free throws from Jakiylah Esco with 55 seconds left, but Texas Southern's defense held firm. Henderson iced the game at the line with two free throws at the 1:02 mark, pushing the lead to 61–57. Grambling's final attempts, including a late jumper from Nunn and a contested layup at the buzzer, came up empty.
