Tigers Fall on the Road at Southern, 64–45

BATON ROUGE, La. — Texas Southern stayed within reach early but could not withstand Southern's second‑half surge in a 64–45 loss Saturday afternoon at the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

Southern opened the game on an 8–0 run following a pair of TSU turnovers that led to a 3‑pointer by Jaylia Reed and consecutive baskets from Zaria Hurston. Texas Southern responded with back‑to‑back layups from Taliyah Logwood to pull within 8–4 before Aaliyah Henderson tied the game at 12 with a fast‑break finish at the 1:33 mark of the first quarter. Southern regained the lead with two free throws in the closing seconds.

A 3‑pointer from Jordyn Marshall gave TSU a 19–17 advantage early in the second quarter, but Southern countered with a series of second‑chance baskets and closed the half with free throws from Demonnie Lagway to take a seven‑point lead into the break.

The Jaguars put the game out of reach with an 11–0 run to open the fourth quarter, scoring on layups from Jestiny Dixon, Lagway and Demya Porter. Mykayla Cunningham added a basket moments later to extend Southern's lead to 20 with 7:18 remaining. Marshall later connected from three for TSU, but the Tigers were unable to cut the deficit back to single digits.

Logwood led Texas Southern with 10 points, while Daeja Holmes added nine points and five rebounds. Ayanna Jackson and Malaya LeSueur each finished with five points.

Texas Southern continues SWAC play on Thursday, Jan. 8, when the Tigers return home to face Mississippi Valley State at 6 p.m. inside the H&PE Arena.
