SUWANEE, Ga. – The Texas Southern Men's Golf team posted a 36-hole total of 613 (311 – 302) to place eighth overall at the Thomas W. Dortch Jr. Golf Classic Hall of Fame hosted by the Black College Golf Coaches Association on Monday.
Junior Bradley Lavinier was the top scorer for the Tigers following his 6-over-par 148 (75 – 73) total. Lavinier's final round included a birdie, 14 pars, and 4 bogeys.
Sophomore Yashal Shah had a nine-shot improvement in his final round with his even par, 71. Shah posted a 151 (80 – 71) to finish tied 16th individually. Freshman Javier Vazquez (81 – 76) and sophomore Ricardo Pham (75 – 82) each posted a 157 total.
The Thomas W. Dortch Jr. Golf Classic Hall of Fame was hosted at Laurel Springs Golf Club in Suwanee, Georgia, and featured 14 HBCU men's golf teams and 9 women's teams. Schools competing on the men's side included Alabama A&M, Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Chicago State, Jackson State, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, Southern University, Texas Southern University, Fisk University, Johnson C. Smith, Livingstone, Miles College, Morehouse College, and Savannah State. The Women's teams included Chicago State, Delaware State, Chicago State, Jackson State, North Carolina Central, Paine College, Savannah State, Southern University, and Texas Southern University.
The Tigers are back in action Sept. 28-30 when they return home for the Bayou City Collegiate Classic hosted by Rice University at Westwood Golf Club.
