Texas Southern Shuts Out St. Thomas on Senior Night

HOUSTON — Texas Southern capped off Senior Night with a commanding 3–0 win over St. Thomas on Sunday evening at Durley Field, delivering a performance that showcased both experience and depth ahead of conference play.

Jacylyn Russ opened the scoring in the 11th minute, netting her first goal of the season off an assist from Melissa Knutson. The Lady Tigers controlled possession and tempo throughout the match, outshooting the Celts 22–9 and earning four corner kicks to none.

Kaia Butler doubled the lead in the 56th minute, finishing a well-executed play assisted by Liliane Clase Baez and Savannah Muldrew. Less than 11 minutes later, Ava Magana added the final goal with an unassisted strike in the 67th minute.

"We're a really good team and we stick with most of our opponents," Butler said. "This will give us a good push to beat some tail next weekend."

Goalkeeper Alessandra Bastidas recorded five saves in the shutout, while the Lady Tigers' defense held firm against late pressure from the Celts.

The match also honored Texas Southern's senior class, who were recognized before kickoff for their contributions to the program.

"We played a different formation today, which allows us to be comfortable in different setups as we head into conference," said Head Coach Danesha Adams. "We've been home for five straight games, so getting on the road will give us a chance to reset, see some different scenery, and play on a bigger field. This group is excited to defend the title, and this win gives us great momentum going in."

Texas Southern will now enjoy a week of rest before opening conference play with a four-game road stretch, beginning at Jackson State.
